Server Virtualisation has made a significant impact to how services are deployed today. Initially a technology that was adopted by larger enterprises or service providers, server virtualisation has many benefits that apply to the medium and, in certain cases, even the small business market.

Space Age Technologies implements Server Virtualisation solutions using Microsoft’s Hyper-V technology, with the applicable management tools from Microsoft’s System Centre product set. All virtual solutions are integrated with our SATAware™ Managed Services for optimum service uptime, stability and overall investment value to the business.

Despite the obvious benefits of less hardware and space, lower cooling and power requirements, that are realised through almost any move to virtualisation, our virtualisation solutions seek to capitalise on the load distribution, flexible computing and business risk benefits as well.

• Load distribution:
By assigning IT services to individual virtual machines, these services can be evenly distributed across all virtual server hosts, thus evenly spreading the computing power requirements across the available hardware. No longer are some servers overloaded and others relatively idle – which is a waste of resources and reduces return from the investment in server hardware.
• Flexible computing:
Since each virtual machine is independent of the hardware upon which is it running, services can be moved between server hardware relatively easily – for load redistribution, or in cases of hardware failure.
• Business risk:
Due to the “Flexible computing” benefit above, loss to a business due to server downtime can be minimised by moving affected services to standby hardware and restoring data. Time to restore (and therefore business downtime) will depend on the investment that can be justified by the cost of that downtime.
